Stinky!

  • Jul. 3rd, 2008 at 12:57 PM
My boyfriend's two little boys are starting up a stink storm like none other since he started mixing EVO into their Totally Ferret. I assume this is normal since their diet has just been slightly tweaked, but the odor is a little beyond offensive at this point. We scoop and change their litter every three days and clean up whatever they've managed to get away with doing outside of the pan immediately.

Anyway, I know that baking soda ist a great natural cleaning agent (Hell, I use it to wash my hair!) and can eat up a good amount of nasty odors (Yay, having to put an open BS box in the fridge one year!), so I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything about sprinking some baking soda into their litter pans. Is it safe for fuzzies?

Hello,

I waited at the bridge for Peepers yesterday with the others who love to greet the new arrivals. She walked across the bridge primly, like the lovely lady that she is. I always love to see the transformation from the earth end to our end; sicknesses disappear, fuzzies become younger in appearance and coats thicken and soften and glow with health. Peepers eyes sparkled more and more; and then she was with us. Oh, the joy!!

After she was groomed, I took time to orient her to the sights and sounds of the bridge, but it was like she had been with us for a long time. She said that she often dreamed of the bridge while she slept among her mommy's clothes in her chest of drawers. She laughed and said that her mommy thought it was HER drawers, but of course Peepers knew better, as we all do. She misses her mommy, and her kitten too. "Mommy thought that the baby furry is hers too." she smiled and dooked, "But of course she is MY baby furry."

Peepers wants her mommy to know that she is fine, feeling well enough to dance and play for hours and hours again. We have been to the reflecting pool to watch Peepers' mom and kitten, and Peepers has curled up in that special place in her mommy's heart. She is always with you now, and if you can only catch a glimpse of her; HER kitty will help you know when she is there too. Love is a funny thing, it translates into all kinds of languages, even cat.

Have I told you about the big condo near the tubes? It is drawer after drawer of soft clothes that smell like home, and Peepers in settling in nicely there.

I am here if you need me.

Mental Floss Food Trivia

I am going to make this a recurring theme!

**Jack Dietz of Chicago holds the unbreakable record for spitting a watermelon seed 66 feet, 11 inches.

**Walt Disney loved tomato juice so much that he served it to everyone who came to his office (and was outraged if they didn't accept it).

**Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, despised the taste of raw carrots, and always spat them out after recording takes of Bugs munching them.

**In the first few months after putting out New Coke, the soda company received over 40,000 letters of complaint and an average of 6,000 calls to its toll-free number every day.

A cartoon about ferrets??

XD I somehow found this show from Japan called "Shiawase Sou no Okojo-san," or, "Okojo of Shiawase Apartments." It's about a very high-strung ferret named Okojo who escapes from an exotic pet store and is taken in by an emotionless guy who lives alone in an apartment.

(okay, technically Okojo-san is a Japanese ermine, which are often called "mountain fairies," but whatever. XD There are also other ferret characters who come in later)

Okojo tries to adjust to things like vacuum cleaners, a vet who is infatuated with him, and his new owner's insane neighbors. He talks with Chorori the mouse, but humans can't understand them. It's....hilarious if you like really absurd, over-the-top humor. XD; If you're offended by the idea of a cartoon ferret/ermine in peril (being fed pudding, tossed around by annoying kids, dressed up, etc), it'll probably just piss you off, but it's really just insane and fun.

You can see the first three episodes in Japanese with English subtitles here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-9005/Shiawase-Sou-no-Okojo-san.html

Unfortunately it seems like no one has subbed the rest of the series, which is 51 episodes long. Maaaybe I won't be the only one here who thinks this show is hilarious. XD

The little hybrids that came to me at 3 weeks of age are quite the handful now. There is three that is quite small and they are quite nippy for kits that are only just 6 weeks of age. Very loud, demanding, and nippy. Two of them were reserved beginning of last week. Spitfire and Hurricane I have named them. I am very partial to Spitfire and have since day one. It will be hard letting him go but they are both going to a wonderful home so that makes it easier.

Spitfire and Hurricane )

Proper introduction.

I posted last week asking about a ferret nation cage but didn't introduce myself. So, here I go. *G*
Hi, my name is _____, and I'm a ferret lover. )
I'm in the middle of a really difficult situation right now, and have only been able to give my ferrets minimal playtime -- three to four hours a day. They usually get about six hours, so their little weasel brains are understandably frustrated by the more-than-usual amount of cage time.

On top of that, now, I have to travel -- just a three day trip, but I worry about my ferrets going stir crazy. So, I was looking for a pet sitter that was willing to give my ferrets at least an hour of play time, preferably more, every day while I'm gone, in addition to the usual litterbox change and water refill.

In Boulder, Colorado, this is apparently an exorbitant request, and will cost me $50 per day or more. Now, I'm willing to spoil my fuzzbutts rotten, and if that's the best I can do, so be it.

But, really, there's got to be an exotic petsitter out there who will charge less for that service.
the greater Denver/Boulder area in Colorado? And if you are -- do you have a petsitter to reccomend? (Idsealy, this sitter would be good with cats, competent enough to change the water in a reptile's cage and feed a hungry lungfish, but I'm willing to hire someone else if I can get a good playmate for my ferret.)

And, normally when I travel, I bring my ferrets to my mom, also a ferret owner, and they get playtime with Brandy and Toby, but since my mom's schedule is in flux, that's currently not an option.

Hello,

Yesterday it was foggy at the bridge. Now you may ask; foggy? at the rainbow bridge?. But here the fog is different than on earth, it shimmers with tiny lights of all colors like many fireflies; and it wraps itself around us like a warm well loved hammock. It was foggy when I waited at the bridge for a very special jill.

She came across with a steady step, clear eyes and a smile that got bigger the closer she approached. Her head was high, and she dooked with delight when she stepped over to me.

"Hello Sally. " I said, "Welcome to the bridge. We are happy to have you here."

Well, the first place, as always, that we went was to the reflecting pool so that she could check on her humans. She lay there for a long while, watching her mommy and daddy, and putting her paw in the pool as though to touch them. She told them that she was fine, and thanked them for giving her the ultimate gift by letting her come to the bridge. We ferrets know that this is hard for our humans, but giving someone, ferret or otherwise, this gift is showing true love beyond anything. She is so grateful to her mommy and daddy for saving her twice, once from a horrible situation, and then by setting her free.

We walked and walked until we came to a tall hillside. I could tell that Sally was curious about what was on the other side, so we raced over together. "Oh my" she breathed softly as she saw the magnificent surroundings and all the ferrets. We had come to the pinnacle of the rainbow bridge, a place so alive with love that the fog immediately lifted and the sun shone brightly enough that I bet you humans could see it from where you were. In this place lived and played all of us who have ever been in an abusive situation. Many of us went on to loving homes to live out our lives, such as Sally, but many did not; they have found love here. Love is, and will always be, the ultimate healing for all of us.

I am here if you need me.
